Moving your terrarium with MOVU

Your move is coming up and you want to entrust the transport of your terrarium to a moving company? Our partner companies are professionals in the moving sector. Transporting a terrarium can be a tricky task. As with transporting an aquarium, our moving companies protect terrariums* perfectly with suitable protective material before loading.

However, moving companies are not specialised in transporting reptiles. This is why we ask our customers to transport their pets themselves, whatever the type of animal.

Before moving your terrarium

Before planning your move, take into account your reptile’s hibernation period. If you can, plan your move outside the winter period so as not to disturb your animal’s natural rhythm.

Have you found a flat? Check with your landlord to see if you can adopt a reptile as a tenant.

The move is coming: Like humans, your reptile can be stressed when moving and it is important to prepare your pet before the big day. The coming and going and the noise of dismantling furniture can be stressful for your pet. We recommend isolating your pet in a quieter room while you prepare your boxes and dismantle your furniture.

If your pet has slow digestion, stop feeding it two or three days before the move. This will prevent him from regurgitating during the move.

Consider buying a special reptile transport box and, if necessary, hot water bottles or heat packs.

The day of your reptile’s move

Place a small amount of substrate or layers of damp paper towels in the bottom of the transport box. Place your reptile in the box and close the box. Make sure that your pet can breathe, but more importantly that it cannot escape. Empty your terrarium and transfer its contents to suitable boxes or bags.

Respect your reptile’s environment during transport by adding hot water bottles or heat packs if necessary. At the new address, place the box and your reptile in a quiet place while you set up your terrarium. If in doubt, refer to the information provided by the PSA and do not hesitate to ask a specialist for advice.
